2019 YEAR OF THE FAMILY
2019 has been designated as the year for Strengthening the Family at St. Columba Parish. The year begins on the Feast of the Holy Family Dec. 30, 2018 and ends on Dec. 29, 2019. Family Life has taken a beating in our western society. I invite all our families to join in Strengthening the Family in 2019. Wednesday morning CAFÉ plans a special Advent Interlude contemplation for December 4, 11, and 18. The Turning Point, Encounters with Jesus that will Change Your Life, is a study of the Gospel of John. Dynamic Catholic Institute, Matthew Kelly’s organization, is sponsoring the study. Catholics really know more about their faith than they give credit for. Doubts about what we believe come from a bombardment of what society and culture tell us life is about. Thursday Cafe will look at a modified version of RCIA. Topics will be ba1sic Catholicism with information from the taken from a text “This is Our Faith” by Michael Pennock, The Catechism of the Catholic Church, The Baltimore Catechism, FORMED.ORG, Bishop Barron, and Vatican II Documents. How well do you know the Old Testament? Can you name the 7 covenants? What Catholic habits do you practice in your home? Do you celebrate name days? Do you struggle with the rosary? Do you pray a morning offering? Do you know the significance of the battle of Lepanto? What do you know about St Michael or your guardian angel? This year Brant Pitre PhD. will lead us on a historical and theological journey of the Old Testament through Jewish scripture. We will also be covering the practices and traditions of our Catholic faith. We meet on Thursday mornings beginning 8/29 from 10-11:30am in room 3 of the Education Building.
