Prayers for Vocations

Have you wondered for a long time whether you have a calling to the priesthood but had many questions and no obvious way to get them answered. Or so you thought until Vision Guide, Inc. released their newest “Catholic Vocation Guide, 2007”, subtitled “Get a Line on Your Life’s Calling”.

To obtain a copy, write: Vocation Guide, St. Bernard Abbey, 1600 St. Bernard Drive, Cullman, AL 35055 or visit their website: http://home.catholicweb.com/visionguide or use e-mail: stbernardmonastery@yahoo.com to obtain your copy

Through the sacrament of Baptism, each person receives "a call" to vocation. All of us are called to holiness and to service. This can be lived out in many ways - as a married or single person, or as a priest, brother or sister. As a parish we make a special effort to pray for vocations to the priesthood and religious life.

Praying for vocations is the most powerful way to support vocations. A vocation is a call from the Holy Spirit, a gift from God that is nurtured in prayer. When we pray for vocations, we lift up to our Heavenly Father those men and women whom God is calling in a very special way. We hope that those who bring the cup home will continue to pray for vocations daily.

The Elijah Cup  is a consecrated chalice that a family takes home from Sunday Mass and puts in a place of honor where it becomes a focal point for daily prayer for Vocations to the Priesthood, Permanent Deaconate, and Religious Life. If you would like to have the “Elijah Cup” in your home, please call Bill & Beth Slayback at 677-3749.

This week the “Elijah Cup” will be at the home of the Albares family.

Please keep the “Prayer for Vocations" in your prayers each day. We will use that prayer from the bulletin at Mass every Thursday for the coming year. Extra copies are available on the table at the back of the Church.

Praying For Vocations

Christ the Shepherd

Prayers for Vocations

Father in heaven, you gave us your son Jesus Christ to be our Good Shepherd. Bestow upon your sons and daughters the grace to listen attentively to his voice as he guides us on our journey toward a life of sacrifice and service.

Bless our families and our parishes with men and women who will generously respond to your grace and choose a life of sacrifice and service as priests, religious sisters, brothers or deacons.

Help us recognize the movement of your Holy Spirit in our hearts and to encourage our young people whatever their vocation may be. We ask this in the Holy Name of Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen

Heavenly Father, we praise and thank You for sending Your only Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, to be our Savior. Through Him, by the power of the Holy Spirit, we ask you to inspire young men to serve Your Church as priests. Grant that their families and the entire family of faith, support these men to answer this call. thus, may Your Son's example of love and service continue in them to build up Your Kingdom. Strengthen all who are called to the priesthood to follow your Son and do Your holy will.

Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen

Imprimatur:  Oscar H. Lipscomb, Archbishop of Mobile
